Dr. Myron Glucksman is author of a book titled Dreaming an Opportunity For Change. Dr. Glucksman is a training and supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Institute of New York Medical College where he is also Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. He has a private practice in Redding Connecticut and New York City. This interview was done several years ago at the time of publication of his book.

Dr. Blumenfield discussed what a therapist should do if a patient says that he or she is driving stoned. 

 

Guest: Anita Everett, M.D.

Dr. Everett is the Immediate Past President of the American Psychiatric Association. She has been Chair of the APA Task Force on Health Care Reform and is Chief Medical Officer of SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Dr. Everett reflects on her recent term as President of the APA.

 

Dr. Blumenfield presents a brief talk that he gave at the annual meeting of The American Academy of Psychodynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis in May 2018 in New York titled Psychotherapy of The Future.

 

 

Guest:  Elise Snyder, M.D. 

Dr. Snyder is Founder and President of CAPA (China American Psychoanalytic Alliance). She is a Clinical Associate Professor Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, Visiting Professor at the University of Sichuan and a consultant to the Ethics Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society. In 2012 she was recipient of the Sigmund Freud Award from the American society of Psychoanalytic Physicians and the Presidential Award from the American Academy of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.  Dr. Snyder is currently in private practice in New York City. 

Dr. Blumenfield reflects on the AIDS epidemic with the publication of the second edition of the Comprehensive Textbook of Aids Psychiatry by Dr. Mary Ann Cohen and colleagues.

Guest: James J. Strain, M.D.

Professor of Psychiatry, Professor of Medical Education and designated Master Teacher at the Icahn School Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. 

Dr. Strain speaks about his career as a pioneer in the subspecialty of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and his experience lecturing and teaching throughout the world.  He also discusses his innovative concepts of depression and physical disease and how they have a reciprocal connection. These ideas are elaborated in a new book that Dr. Strain edited with Dr. Blumenfield titled Depression As A Systemic Illness recently published by Oxford University Press.

Guest:Norman B. Levy, M.D.

Dr. Levy is a psychiatrist and Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at State of New York Downstate Medical College and a former director of Consultation Liason Psychiatry at Downstate Medical College and New York Medical College. He is the leading expert on the psychological effects of kidney disease, dialysis and renal transplants. He is also the founder of the Pyschonephrology Foundation. He is currently in private practive in Beverly Hills, California. 

 

Guest: Alfred M. Freedman M.D. (1917-2011)

102nd President of the American Psychiatric Association - 1972

 

Dr. Freedman discusses the behind the scenes details of the historic decision of the 

American Psychiatric Association's declaration that homosexuality is not a psychiatric disorder. He also talks about the circumstances how he became President of the APA and the story of the position of the APA about the interrogation of prisoners as well as some interesting issues. Dr. Freedman was interviewed by Dr. Blumenfield in June 2007.
